Classes Taught: Gentle/Slow Flow Yoga & Hot Yoga
Joan Sherwood, (E-RYT 500, Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) has been studying and practicing yoga for nearly 20 years. Joan began practicing yoga in 2006 in a Hot Power Yoga class. She immediately fell in love with both the physical practice and the mindfulness that it demanded. In 2009, Joan obtained her 200-hour certification at Yoga Source in St. Louis, and began teaching. She has taken several additional immersion studies with Tias Little, obtained a certification to teach cancer survivors from Balance Your Body Yoga in Houston, TX, and most recently obtained a 300-hour certification from Jason Crandell Yoga. Joan obtained a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certification, and previously owned a CrossFit affiliate gym in Carbondale. She has taught in yoga studios, CrossFit gyms, school gymnasiums, vineyards, university arenas and football fields, assisted living facilities, and private homes. She enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels. Joan has taught pre-K students, older adults, and every age in between, including athletes from high school to Division 1 university teams. "Many people believe yoga is only valuable for stretching and flexibility, however, I believe that building strength and balance are equally important for all students. I include all components in my classes and love to see my students progress in a specific posture, grow stronger, and find new balance. I live in Carbondale with my husband and two cats. We have five grown children and eight grandchildren. I love teaching all styles of yoga and sharing the gifts of yoga with all ages."
